MICHELLE'S PORTFOLIO
VOLUNTEER EVENTS
The following are charity events that I have dedicated a significant amount of time organizing or events I have volunteered at.
Organizer of Nuit Blanche Exibition
I partnered with Soles4Souls and was the organizer of a Nuit Blanche art exhibition that raised 700 pairs of used shoes to build a shoe monument.
Organizer of SJAM Holiday Market
Holiday Market is a two day event at my school where we invite clubs and community organizations to come in and sell goods. I organized all aspects of the event, from the planning stage to the actual promotion and set up the day of.
This was the first school event that I ever organized and I learned a lot about being a leader. I thought I knew my own limits but after the event, I realized that self-created limitations can always be broken. I faced sef-doubt and fear but through the process, I discovered that those emotions are really short term and with the support of other amazing leaders, a goal can be met.

This year's Holiday Market! This was a hot chocolate stand.

2013: I was the organizer for the event and we raised $700 towards Red Cross.
2014: I was also the organizer this year and we raised $500 towards Nutrition for Learning at Forest Heights Public School.
2015: I helped organize the event and we raised $400 towards Doctors Without Borders.
Halloween for Hunger
Instead of trick-or-treating for candy on Halloween, I ask for canned donations for our local Food Bank. After organizing treat-or-treat for Hunger for the past 3 years, it has become and annual event in my neighborhood. I'm very appreciative because they always prepare the non-perishable food items ahead of time. It's really touching to see that even with minimal promotion, people always have food prepared because they are now expecting us every year.
Amount of food I collected
In total, my clubs collected 7 boxes of food this year!

Zombie Walk
A Key Club event we planned was volunteering at Zombie Walk, a local event that raises money towards Nutrition for Learning. There were some amazing memories from the event and everyone who participated had an awesome time. We also got feautured in the paper so I'm glad we can spread awareness for a non-profit organization like Key Club and also Nutrition for Learning.
The "Elemonate" Challenge
Another event conducted in club was to participate in an Elemonate Challenge. This is where we film ourselves eating lemons to raise awareness and fundraise for Eliminate. This cause aims at eliminating neonatal tetanus from around the world, one country at a time.
Helped Organize SJAM Voices
Voices is a coffee house style event that invites performers to perform for people without a voice. We managed to raise $400 towards Free the Children.
We are planning to organize this event again this year because the night really goes to an amazing cause. It's a very inspirational night because you see performers so passionate about the cause they are supporting and everyone learns a lot.
Dog Toys for KW Humane Society
As part of Key Club, we hosted in club events like making dog toys out of used tee-shirts for the KW Humane Society.
An activity we organize every year in Key Club is making Christmas cards for the retirement home beside our school during the holiday times.
