Co-Chair of Global Issues

My four year involvement in SJAM Global Issues allowed me to not only make an impact in our community, but also globally. Some of my responsibilities include:

  • planning and holding club meetings every week

  • holding executive meetings and meetings with teachers

  • contacting other clubs and organizations

  • running monthly events

I have coordinated numerous events around my school and community, in addition to weekly meetings with over 30 club members. Helping organize the event Voices at our school where we raised over $300 towards Free the Children, volunteering at the local Ray of Hope community shelter by making and serving food, running a kindness act initiative are examples of the variety of events that I have coordinated as part of my contribution. Even so, I would say my most valuable contribution is organizing a Holiday Market. I took the responsibility of coordinating an executive team and planning all aspects of this three day event. This event ended up raising $700 dollars towards Red Cross, supporting the survivors of typhoon Haiyan. This event not only helped with the relief efforts in the Philippines, it was very valuable to our club as a whole. It showed people the importance of supporting the long term recovery of devastations. With all these events, club members were able to take on leadership roles that united everyone within our club and others throughout the school. Even throughout our community, our members were able to become recognized and known for our efforts, which also spread more awareness about these world issues at the same time.
